Over the past few months there have been some changes in the board of International Society and we'd like to introduce you to our new board members.
First, we would like to thank outgoing board members: Barbara Hanzewniak, Pete Johnson and Dina Cravcenco for volunteering their time since October 2020 and all of the efforts they've put in over this difficult period. Your contributions helped us broaden the diversity of our events and grow even while Covid-19 restrictions prevented us from meeting in person, by developing fun and creative online events that kept our community connected, like secret Santa, Kahoot quizzes, and virtual escape rooms. We are grateful to have had you as part of the board and you will all be missed.
Now on to our new board members Lina Parnatauskaite, Stoyan Shivachev and Pedro Barata. They will join Bryan Gillenwater, Krasi Nica and Dora Gocze on the board. Below they've each written a short introduction:
Lina Parnatauskaite - Secretary
Hello I'm Lina, I come from Lithuania and moved to Denmark 12 years ago.
I work at Scan Global Logistics, at a warehouse just outside of Hammerum. My hobbies are dancing and shooting hand guns, in both, I also teach, giving my share back to community. I've been attending International Society events for more than 8 years now, and became a board member to help internationals integrate, network and find new friends who know how it is to be newcomer. I know it has helped me a lot, and I want to do the same for others.
Stoyan Shivachev - Treasurer
Hi I'm Stoyan! I am originally from Bulgaria and I moved to windy Denmark around 10 years ago. It was a unique experience getting used to the cultural differences and the Danish pace of life. I started liking the hygge and open mindset you find in the people here and have decided to settle down in Denmark.
In my free time I enjoy being physically active. Playing Padel Tennis, Badminton or lifting weights, also frequently visit the sauna in DGI. I like cooking and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. Also love to have cozy evenings with friends playing board games.
I've been an active participant of International Society events for the last few years and have enjoyed them a lot. So when given the opportunity to join the board I decided to go for it. I wanted to give something back and be part of organizing new exciting events.
Pedro Barata - Board Member
Hello I'm Pedro. I moved from Portugal to Denmark 2 years ago to work. The cultural adaptation and learning Danish were obviously not the easiest tasks in the world, but I am quite happy about living here and am considering making Denmark my home for a long time.
My hobbies include travelling, CrossFit, a good movie, hanging out with friends, and of course, taking part in International Society events!
I found the opportunity to join the Board an interesting challenge, where I can help organize events to make newcomers feel welcomed and give them a chance to expand their social network.
We're very excited to have Lina, Stoyan and Pedro on the board and look forward to all the exciting events we'll make together as we continue to grow and strengthen our community.
If you are interested in volunteering at an upcoming event, have an idea for an event or how we could do things better, or are interested in joining the board you can write us at info@international-society.dk.
Hope to see you at our upcoming events!
